There weren't any big races this weekend yet a few notable performances are worthy of mention. One of the main ideas behind these pieces is that Interbet followers can add horses mentioned in this newsletter to their Horse Watch list as a point of reference when making selections. Most of the highlighted runners go on to do well when next entered at the appropriate class level and under the right circumstances.
At Kenilworth, Silver Salver (speed score 98) won a MR 86 sprint with a career peak effort after being held up off the pace, and he will beat stronger. Trainer Eric Sands has done an excellent job with this son of Silvano who has already won four of ten starts.
Deputy Jud (s/s 94+) was heavily supported to score in a MR 88 at Turffontein after running a potent figure last time behind the classy Ertijaal. High percentage rider Lerena (19% wins to mounts) took no chances, having the chestnut colt in a handy position before making an early run at the top of the straight. Deputy Jud then kept on powerfully keeping Rushmore River at bay.
Horses for courses is an old saying in racing - Caribbean Day (s/s 92) lived up to that maxim when, equipped with pacifiers, he came motoring through from the back of the field to win a MR 86 handicap at Scottsville. The longshot relished the sloppy conditions and has now won all three career races, plus numerous placing's, over this course and distance.
Symbolik (s/s 95) has really come well in PE, completing a hat-trick in a MR 93 heat over 1600m at Fairview. Symbolik ran some big numbers early in his career before losing his way after a failed KZN mission. Now with Dorrie Sham in PE, Symbolik is showing his real worth again, equipped with cheek pieces, and can win more with further development.
