Royal Colours dipped out going for a rare seventh win in succession when finding it a bridge too far at the MR 90 level on the Greyville Poly. Low weight Warcraft easily proved best, but Royal Colours really has optimised his chances under skilful handling to win his 12th - 17th starts. On the topic of winning streaks, the world record belongs to a Puerto Rican horse of the 50's, Camerero who won an incredible 56 straight in a 73 time winning career! It takes great durability and dominance to achieve that feat, regardless of the level of opposition.

In contemporary times, cunningly placed Rapid Redux won 22 straight in modest allowance company in the States, huge mare Zenyatta had a 19 race sequence on her way to American Horse of the Year in 2010, whilst Oz sprinter Black Caviar won 21 in a row - all exceptional achievements. Across all professional sporting codes, the world record belongs to Pakistani squash player, Jahangir Khan who ruled that physically demanding sport between 1981 - 1986, scoring 555 consecutive victories!

Ha Lucy (speed score 101) was impressive winning the Gardenia Handicap. She hinted at good ability when winning on the sand last time (s/s 98) shortening from a best Interbet price of 10's and romping home. The other feature at Turffies was the Victory Moon Stakes, run with plenty of rain about and leaving a strung out field battling in the slush. Judicial relished the slop to win, just thwarting deep-closer Earl of Derby with pacemaker Everest keeping on for third in an upset result.

Tevez won the Merchants again at Kenilworth. Just as in 2013, he weaved through from off the pace, this time snaring Daring Dave. It was a good race for trainer Mike Bass - not only did he saddle Tevez, but also fast finishing Hammies Hooker and Lanner Falcon . Both should be formidable in upcoming fillies features over slightly further.

    Best wishes,
    Mark van Deventer
